The Data Center as Computer by Barroso, Hölzle, Rangananthan 2026-06-18 Thu

I wanted to read something about how datacenters are designed and built. I was working through the SL5 Task Force standard and was frustrated by the amount of terminology that was unfamiliar to me. So far I’m finding the information very valuable. The book is dense with information but it’s very accessible. I’m taking the approach of taking it slow and going from cover to cover though I’m not sure that’s the best approach.

A History of the Muslim World 2026-05-03 Sat

I hope to read all the chapters prior to Mongol invasions by the end of the year but I haven’t been making much progress lately and I still need to go back through and take notes. I’m mainly aiming to pick up enough historical context that I can learn more about Islam without being confused.

This is far more accessible than the Fairbank book. It’s also a lot more focused on Imperial history, as I’ve wanted.

I read everything prior to the civil war and this only took me about half way through the book. It’s pretty dense and focused on explaining broad historical trends rather than expositing the story for newcomers.
